Dr. Karen Mooney presents an informative talk entitled "Farming Seaweed: What's the point?". This talk will be about the seaweed cultivation work happening at Queen's University Belfast and how this fits into the global seaweed industry, from food to industrial biotechnology.

Location Barholm, Portaferry
Dr. Mooney runs the QUB seaweed cultivation site in Strangford Lough; her research focuses on the optimisation of the sustainable cultivation of kelp for bioproducts (biogas and high value products), looking specifically at biomass production and environmental and genetic impacts of cultivation. She is passionate about science, communication and teaching biology.
